What are the differences between nits and lice?

Lice are ectoparasites that live off of their human hosts. Lice feed on human blood after piercing the skin and injecting saliva, which causes pruritus. Lice are able to survive away from their human host. However, they will die of starvation within 1-2 days of removal from their human host.

The adult female louse lays eggs, called nits, at the base of the hair shaft. Nits hatch in 8 days if they are kept near body temperature, and mature in another 8-9 days.

How much time does a treatment take?

If signs of lice are detected, an average treatment will take 30-60 minutes per person.  We work hard to ensure each treatment is done as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Can my pets get lice?
No, thank goodness.  Lice will only thrive on human heads.

Do I need to clean my home after a lice outbreak?

Yes.  Your home will need to be thoroughly cleaned during and after lice treatments.  Easy tips will be offered during visits.

How long will it take my family to be lice-free?
At Chicago Lice, we know your time is important.  Most families are lice-free after two treatments. Appointments can be arranged so that children miss little to no school.

How much do your services cost?
